A lovely evening last night… cold… fun music…warmth laughter of friends meeting and running together at a great event.. the bright nights of Springfield 5k… then came the learning.
I was a little dubious how it was going to go having been under the weather.. but all went well… till into the race the hip acted up acutely… pain.. down the leg and in the knee forcing me to walk…. Even though I did speed up my pace intently.
Had to face something that I was not willing to see during all my months of endurance training… I was injured and I had to rest… overuse of undertrained muscles
We all push ourselves beyond our limits… it’s natural… sports… work… home …..studying etc…it is the human spirit wanting to reach for some high goal…. natural
Yet when the mind fails to listen to the wisdom of the body…. problems happen….
The soreness had been there in other training runs and had been aggravated by shorter snd shorter runs…. but preventing me from enjoying run time with friends had been getting to me so I ignored the signs… now i was forced to pay attention
I had done 21 Miles of running in training and never had a issue.. now small distances were aggravating the hip…embodying me to slow down
It is not easy to accept that we have an injury….. a lesson my friend yesterday made me aware of while I was in pain.. so I spent the rest of the race.. going deep and acknowledging that I have an issue… i know the solutions… so will fix it as I nestle into the winter for long training and tweaking the subtle issues of the body…
The learning is to face the fear (of an injury).. the shadow frequency… this is the first step in healing…. to be aware of the shadow….
I am going to be fine… daily attention to body talk is key. One doesn’t fail from exercise.. one fails when not listening to the body as it moves.
……………..
I love you
